She stood up and moved across to the door, resting her head against the wall she looked at the PADD on the nearby table. A new Sovereign Class starship. Would it really add up to the Hades? She walked back to the small seating area and turned over her tunic, pulling it on she tapped her badge. "Janey to Ash, ready to visit the new ship?" (reply Vesper) "meet you there then, Brown out" Janey closed the channel and headed out the room, doing up her tunic as she left. (Posted by Mat Hodson) (USS Gannicus – Main Engineering – CEO Ensign Vesper - 0702)   ~Why did you ever get the feeling that things would settle into normality. You just finished that re haul of the Hades and now your posted here with the ship still in construction. Boy ya' sure do pick them. Oh less inner monologue please Ash your giving me a headache, at least there's that handsome young ensign over there.~ Ash glanced to her side then quickly returned to her work, ~How many times do I have to tell you i'm not interested. You can try tell yourself all you want, Ash but...~ A voice echoed across the comm. =/\= Janey to Ash, ready to visit the new ship? =/\= "Well I'd love to, but someone mentioned this ship was needing built so I'll give you three guesses where I am right now. I have a nice list waiting for you here chief," she smiled. =/\= meet you there then, Brown out =/\= Hitting her comm badge Ash carefully walked over parts scattered through engineering. ~This is nowhere near tidy enough.~ She waved a couple of crewmen over, "Anything not in use right now I want cleared from the deck right now gents," A quick nod and the crewmen got to work. Glancing up at the warp core she took a quick stock of the work that was going on, she had appeared a mid-shift. Some of the crew were familiar, probably on par with those who were not. She pulled a pill from her side and swallowed it whole before returning to work wondering weather she would get the chance to see her new ACEO today. (Posted by Adam) (USS Gannicus – Main Engineering – Ops, CPO Janey Brown - 0715)   Janey finally walked into Engineering, she had gotten lost several times and decided in the end to use a map. ~looks tidyish~ Janey thought as she walked around. Walking along the upper gangplanks she peered down and saw Ash. "how long have you been here!" Janey shouted down (reply Vesper) "one second and I'll be down" Janey walked across to the lift and set off down to her friend. As she walked along the walkway Janey peered up at the warp core "so, what's the plan? Janey asked. (reply Vesper) (posted by Mat Hodson) (USS Gannicus – Main Engineering – CEO Ensign Vesper - 0717) "how long have you been here!" Janey shouted down Ash jumped slightly hitting her knee on a bar, "OOooo, you don't want to know," she said masking the small bruise now forming on her shin. "one second and I'll be down" Janey walked across to the lift and set off down to her friend. As she walked along the walkway Janey peered up at the warp core "so, what's the plan? Janey asked. "First things first, this is for you," Ash handed a PADD over to Janey, "Don't worry its just the basic requisition list, nothing fancy or extravagant. Although if you want I could add some of you baking to the list. It's that or a case of whisky after all this is put together." (reply Janey) Ash nodded, "I know the alloys on the list will be difficult to get on this notice, but hey low priority. Besides i'm sure we can borrow them from somewhere. We do have one of the best Ops officers in the fleet here." Smiling Ash knew the flattery would probably result in something other than an increased effort to get her alloys. (reply Janey) "Seriously though, don't worry about them if you cant." Reaching to one side she pulled an instrument out of her open repair kit and switched it on. "Would you believe they haven't hooked up the reactors to the warp core yet? I mean what if the Captain says 'Warp two' and im stuck here going, 'oh well id love to but we forgot to pay the power bill'." (posted by Adam) (USS Gannicus – Main Engineering – Ops, CPO Janey Brown - 0719) "so, what's the plan? Janey asked. Ash nodded, "I know the alloys on the list will be difficult to get on this notice, but hey low priority. Besides i'm sure we can borrow them from somewhere. We do have one of the best Ops officers in the fleet here." "I will see what I can do, im sure someone somewhere has something for you!" Janey pondered how far she could push the relationship without giving the commander the wrong idea, again.   "Seriously though, don't worry about them if you cant. Would you believe they haven't hooked up the reactors to the warp core yet? I mean what if the Captain says 'Warp two' and im stuck here going, 'oh well id love to but we forgot to pay the power bill'." Ash started fiddling around again "Ash, if that happened I would be very worried...we're in spacedock!" Janey laughed. (reply Vesper) "oh, I saw the crew roster, have you met your assistant yet?" (posted by Mat Hodson) (USS Gannicus – Main Engineering – CEO Ensign Vesper - 0721) "Ash, if that happened I would be very worried...we're in spacedock!" Janey laughed. She giggled, "We'll id still rather not be in the hot seat and have that happen, can you grab that isolator and clamp this conduit off before I connect it up, live power is never a healthy breakfast option." Watching closely she saw the power indicator go off and began connecting the new route. "oh, I saw the crew roster, have you met your assistant yet?" "Not yet, I've barely had a chance to meet any of the new crew here. You know what its like down here always busy. I'm sure he'll show at some point. Unless we work opposite shifts for the next three years." With her free hand she reached back for another tool and place it gently into the open panel carefully angling the power flow regulator. (reply Janey) "How are you doing?" enquired Ash, she was with Janey when the Hades when through its command changes, she knew she didn't cope easily with the sudden quickness of change. I'm gonna miss the old girl" Janey hid the small tear in her eye. "how are you?" Not like we just finished putting the Hades back together again or anything. More work is exactly what we needed," she joked pulling her tools out of the slot. "You can let that go now." (reply Janey) "Well, one connection down," A voice cut her off from the level above, "Ma'am, I have a few reports here for you." "Thanks Jonas, toss them down one at a time please," she held her hands out catch all three PADD's one by one, "Now get a team over to the anti-matter reactors and give them the once over." She glanced at the first PADD and handed it towards Janey, "This isn't good. There is no way we are going to have everything working by the time we are scheduled to leave. Look at that list" (reply Janey) "Prioritise I know, but even then it will be a push. Is there any chance we could pull a couple of teams from Geneva or the other ships to help out?" She wondered how much work the construction teams had actually done. ~Guess they were taking eleven one and threeses. Always someone else to try pick up the slack~ "It seems all i manage to do is give you a bigger list." "Oh I will, i'll let you know how I get on over at the station." Janey stood and followed the path to the exit, she made her way back go the station. (posted by Mat Hodson) (USS Gannicus  – Main Sickbay – CMO Lt, Mil Nicolae  - 0940) Mil moved around the all ready cramped sickbay, there were engineers fitting the bio beds and medical techs from the station trying to solve the ongoing problems with the medical sensors and what was beginning to feel outdated surgical equipment. Outdated only because it point blankly refused to work.   Falling over yet another crewman Mil tried to get into his new office, the shake up of the new crew had landed him back where he felt happy, he enjoyed his time in Security, but his whole maternal family were medics. As he tried to get through the door it failed to open again. Spinning around he shouted to all the officers present "will someone please sort this door and turn off that ruddy EMH. If it asks once more what the issue is I personally will  pull its matrix out chip by chip!" As Mil finished talking there was A scurrying, the EMH was deactivated and two crewmen moved to the doors. "Thank you!" Mil said with a lot more calm in his voice than before. Rubbing his nose again, the ridges felt harsh and full of hatred. Sighing Mil walked through the now fixed door and sat in his office, surrounded by info on the crew he started to read up on his new first officer. (Posted by Mat Hodson) (USS Gannicus - Ready Room - CO Captain Eva Straton - 13:30) Eva had come on board unannounced and without of the fan fare that normally accompanied a Captain arriving to a new command. She cared little for such things. Besides, there would time enough for all that latter. She was still a marine at heart and more interested in making sure the job got done right than looking pretty. She looked around the spartan room as she moved over to the desk and sat down behind it. ~Time enough to decorate later.~ She thought activating the terminal on the desk. She entered her command and authorization codes and down loaded the current status on the construction of the ship. She knew the regular crew would be arriving on board over the next couple days. Construction was behind schedule, and that was something she fully intended to fix. The Gannicus would launch on schedule, she would make sure of that. The Admiral handed Tain the padd with his new assignment as Assistant Chief Medical officer.   Tian headed to the spacedock  he couldn’t wait to see the new ship. (Posted by Richard)   (USS Gannicus - Deck 10, Jr. Officers Quarters - Science Officer Ensign (JG) Collin Hayes - 1405)   Twenty-four decks, and out of those, at least eight had crew quarters that were available to him. But which straw did he receive...the short one. Collin's assigned quarters shared a wall with none other than Ten Forward. He was sure that he was simply going to be distracted at all times. He imagined music, talking murmurs, clattering of dishes, and much more. Although he liked to think he was special, he wasn't so delusional to know that he really wasn't. In order to move quarters he was going to have to make friends with the Quartermaster. (Posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Gannicus - Ready Room - Science Officer Ensign (JG) Collin Hayes - 1410)   Collin walked the short distance and short ride in the turbolift to his new and first ship Commanding Officer's Ready Room. He of course had to make his way there via the Bridge. As he stepped off of the turbo lift he admired the beauty of the bridge with its simplistic layout yet complexity of various systems all needing to work together as one. There really wasn't anyone on the bridge, he assumed that bridge duty wasn't actually required as of this moment.   It wasn't hard for him to find the Ready Room's chime, but before he could push it he paused. The new junior officer thought for a moment about what he knew about the Captain. He had researched the general database, and only found general knowledge about the her, but he really didn't get a sense of who the Captain was as a person. He fully understood that as he meets Captain Straton for the first time he would be making an impression. That first impression was important and to Collin it was even more important. Ensign Hayes had a goal and that goal would motivate him through out his career to do the best, to be the best.   He extended his finger further and pushed the chime. Moments later the doors split a part and opened. Collin walked in with a perfect uniform and clean boots. He stood in front of the desk in the room and announced himself. "Ensign junior grade Collin Hayes reporting as a Science Officer sir."   (reply Straton) (Posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Gannicus - Ready Room - CO Captain Eva Straton - 14:15) "Enter," Eva said as the door buzzer sounded. She looked up to see another young ensign walk through the door and up to her desk. "Ensign junior grade Collin Hayes reporting as a Science Officer sir," He said. Eva held out her hand and took the PADD from him containing his orders. She quickly reviewed the orders before placing the PADD down on her desk. "Ensign," She said, as much in greeting as anything else, "We are behind schedule and I will need you put you to work immediately. Drop your gear off in your quarters then make your way to sensor maintenance and see if you can't help the work crew down there get the ships senor's properly aligned and working." If there are no questions, then you are dismissed Ensign." (Posted by Wes) (USS Gannicus - Ready Room - Science Officer Ensign (JG) Collin Hayes - 1418) "Ensign," She said, as much in greeting as anything else, "We are behind schedule and I will need you put you to work immediately.  Drop your gear off in your quarters then make your way to sensor maintenance and see if you can't help the work crew down there get the ships senor's properly aligned and working."  If there are no questions, then you are dismissed Ensign." "Yes sir, and it is a pleasure to be part of your crew sir," said Ensign Hayes as he turned on his heels, just the way he was taught at the Academy, toward the ready room exit doors. Once he was close enough to the doors for them to open nothing happened. He felt embarrassed, something like this happening in front of his new commanding officer. There was nothing he could do about it now except stay calm and show Captain Straton, no matter how small the problem, that he was a problem solver.   Collin reached out his finger and tapped a few buttons on the door panel controls, double tapping the last one. Suddenly the doors opened to allow the Ensign to leave. But before he did, he turned to look at the woman behind the desk. "I'll check on the internal sensors first sir," and then he departed. (Posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Gannicus - Deck 10, Corridor - Science Officer Ensign (JG) Collin Hayes - 1425)   Collin walked through the corridor confident that he knew where he was going. He was headed to Sensor Maintenance, and it so happen to be on the same deck as his quarters and the ever popular Ten Forward. It was kind of funny to him to think that most of his time would be spent on just one deck. He hoped, of course, that he would be able to log in some bridge duty, but he knew he would have to prove himself to his department chief that he was capable.   As he walked alone, counting the doors as he passed them, he thought back to his meeting with Captain Straton. It didn't go bad, but he wasn't sure if it went great. The Captain was very forward and didn't have much to say at all. Ensign Hayes wondered if she often had that personality or was she simply trying to get through the day with as much progress as possible. He remembered the office and how spartan it looked. He used that information as proof that the Captain was hard as a rock.   Once his thoughts about the situation left him he quickly noticed he had arrived to his destination. Again, as he attempted to step through the door way the doors did not open, and then suddenly they opened about a quarter of the way. Instead of using the panel he opted to use his muscles to open the doors. He firmly placed both hands around the end of the right door and readied his feet to pull. He pulled and he had to hold it for a second before the door began to open at a slow pace. He gave it as much force as he could and surely the doors caught on and opened the rest of the way.  (Posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Gannicus, CO Ready Room, ACMO Ensign JG Tian Noble, 1430)   Tian press the button to chime into the captains ready room, he waited for permission to enter the ready room.   (reply Stratton)   He stood in front of his commanding officer handing her the padd assigning him to her crew, hoping she wouldn’t think he was some spoiled Starfleet brat. She looked up from her reading to see an Ensign in either medical or science blue enter the room, march over to in front of her desk and hold out a PADD and not saying a word. Eva's eyebrow rose slightly as she took the offered PADD and quickly accessed the orders contained on it. "Ensign Noble," She said looking up at the Ensign. "It is customary to introduce yourself when reporting in to a new commanding officer is it not?" She waved away his response with a sharp gesture of one hand. "Save it. Drop your gear in your quarters then report to Sickbay. We have a lot of work to do and a short time to get it done. If there are no questions, Ensign, then you are dismissed." (posted by Wes) (USS Gannicus - Deck 10, Sensor Maintenance - Science Officer Ensign (JG) Collin Hayes - 1435) Inside the room Collin was surprised to see no one was there. Maybe the shut door was preventing any officers inside. This thought process made the ensign believe even more now than ever that the door problem definitely could be with the internal sensors. The room looked as normal as he knew. The only experience he really had were from the Academy, and the practice sessions he had in various Sensor Maintenance room copies in the holodeck. This room was quite possibly and most likely bigger, cleaner, and for sure newer. He gazed around for a moment locating a computer that he felt would be the one he should start on first.   The computer display lit up as Ensign Hayes ran his first finger over it. It quickly waited for his code input before it showed any useful data or menu. It quickly accepted his position and clearance code which Collin which was a happy experience for him. At that moment he felt welcomed, and needed. He felt he was officially an officer on the Gannicus.   He allowed the smile to fade and began to work through the menu to access the internal sensors. Minutes went by as he worked through the multiple subroutines, code and data of the internal sensor data. Once he was happy that their was no issue with the sensors on the surface he began to dive deeper into the system.   After Collin removed each layer one by one he became more discouraged that he was wrong all along or that he had missed something carelessly. He was hoping to make a grand first impression by fixing something quickly, but it was certainly turning out not to work that way. When it seemed all hope was lost, the young ensign found exactly what he was looking for.   In the far depths of the program was a string of commands that were tailored toward Klingons only. It was a program designed to safeguard a ship that would only have one type of species on board and would only accept commands from that specific native only. There were a few ships in the entire fleet that were like this and would require this time of programming. For Collin it was clearly an over looked mistake in the internal sensors computer upload.   Ensign Hayes immediately began to fix the problem, but quickly discovered an even further problem. A second command subroutine was also installed in the programming, but it was at least the correct one. This command would allow all Starfleet officer's and crewmen with approved combadges on board and command low priority areas such as doors.   Because the two codes were in place the computer was confused and wasn't for sure which command to follow since the code was written so that neither command trumped the other. Further, as command crew came aboard and began taking leadership roles and activating their proper codes it confused the computer even more. The program began to merge itself and attempted to fix itself. To Collin this was clearly the reason why the doors would open for you sometimes and other times it wouldn't, or why it would open part way and then suddenly stop. The computer was confused as what it should do and so it often did both programs or none at all.   The solution wasn't as easy as just deleting the Klingon Only command, because the string of code had merged. If he deleted one then he would likely delete both and that would leave the internal sensors with a blank canvas and nothing would work for anyone. No, Ensign Hayes was going to have to cleverly write a new subroutine that slowly digested out the bad code and leave the correct code. And since it would be a solution that would need time to fix itself he estimated that the doors and other minor problems wouldn't work correctly for about 3 days. Hopefully in time for the Gannicus to launch.   Before he began to write the new code, he decided that he better make a quick report and send it up the chain in case there were any problems with what he was doing. After that was sent he began to type away on the panel to write the new subroutine. "Yes I have," Collin responded with some excitement. He was happy to share his find with another officer, and it was a bonus that the officer who was asking was the Chief of Engineering. Ensign Hayes went on to tell the department head what he had found and how it seemed to be a programmers mistake when the program was uploaded to the central computer.  "Well that is a bit of an oversight, good find," she switched to another tool as she reconfigured the equipment. "How long do you think it will take to sort? And just out of curiosity why are you down here? However it will take a few days for the entire program to accept the new programming." Collin didn't stop there, he further explained how the two installed codes merged and it was now impossible to just delete one and not the other.  What was puzzling to the new Ensign was Ashley's last question. Was she suggesting that Collin should not be in the room. He was sure that he had adequate access, and a good reason for doing the work. Or was she just asking why was Collin not in Ten Forward or still enjoying the amenities of the Starbase Geneva. "I am afraid sir that I don't understand your question. Collin thought back to Laogo III which was a complete desert planet. Water was extremely scarce so during the time he lived there he wasn't able to enjoy his favorite hobby.   He was about to share this story when Ashley spoke suddenly, "Sorry to interrupt, but I take it you applied a backwards trace algorithm to your program. "I understand," Collin started. He stopped inputting commands into the terminal so he could focus on what he was about to say. "I moved a lot as well. My parents were archaeologists, and we moved from world to world in search of history. In my time, I have experienced very many worlds and species." He turned back around toward the terminal to start working again.  She closed the panel and placed the kit back over her right shoulder. He had physically dragged them into his office area and they stood there with their heads bowed and looking guilty as hell.  “Do either of you have the slightest idea what that would have done if it had gone off? Our entire stock in the armoury destroyed, the security offices would have been badly damaged and everyone in this room would likely to be dead.” The two men continued to stare at the ground, desperate for it to open up and swallow them. “How do think your family would have reacted to a letter saying Starfleet regrets to inform you that their son died because he was stupid?” He glanced up and saw his new boss enter the room and start to look around.  “You are both stripped of all active duties. You will demonstrate to me why you deserve to be on this ship by disassembling, cleaning and re-assembling every single rifle and hand phaser in the armoury.” “But they are all brand new.” One started to object, his word died in his throat as he found himself staring up into a pair of sapphire eyes, glowering into his own face as the huge Russian towered over him. “You should be thankful I am not throwing you out the nearest airlock for gross negligence on duty. Dragovar growled. “Once you are done, I want all the torpedo launchers scrubbed until I can use the reflection to shave in. Then I will personally run you through the firearms course again, until I am 100% certain that neither of you will repeat this again. We are the newest ship, and the best in this fleet. Behave like you belong here.”  “Yes Sir.” Both men said. Dragovar noted their bootcamp training start to leak back in. “Now get to work , and if I find you have been slacking then I will see to it that the pair of you end up as guards on the lunar penal colonies.”   The pair practically bolted from the room. "Where I was and what I did after leaving the Hades is classified," She replied simply. "I had a complete physical shortly before being assigned to the Gannicus, so I don't think you will find anything major amiss." (Posted by Wes) (USS Gannicus, Ready Room, CMO, Lt JG Mil Nicolae, 1607) "You spent a lot of time off the Hades, I need to know where you went and what risks you encountered," He asked while he put his med-kit down on the desk and opened it. Mil started scanning the captain, she didnt seem any different from the last time they met, but he wasn't looking for anything then. "Where I was and what I did after leaving the Hades is classified, I had a complete physical shortly before being assigned to the Gannicus, so I don't think you will find anything major amiss." Straton replied in a simple way. ~well I needn't be here then~ Mil thought to himself, half carrying on the conversation in his head. (reply Straton if you want, not sure if you would be reading Mils thoughts) Placing the scanner back into the tricorder he put it down, "permission to speak freely sir" (reply Straton) (posted by mat Hodson) (USS Gannicus - Ready Room - CO Captain Eva Straton - 1610) "Permission to speak freely sir," Nicolae asked putting down his tri-corder. "Granted," Eva said, motioning toward one of the empty chairs in front of her desk. (Posted by Wes) (USS Gannicus - Ready Room - CO Captain Eva Straton - 1612) "Captain if you don't mind me saying, I believe we need a good working relationship, I know many things are classified and will continue to be. But I will be prying sir, you've appointed me to this position and I will be fulfilling it to the best of my ability," Lt. Nicolae said. Eva rose a brow as she stared at the young man. "You are saying we don't have a good working relationship?" She asked. (Posted by Wes) (USS Gannicus  – Main Sickbay  - CMO Lt Mil Nicolae 1959) Mil dropped his head back down to the desk, he was yet to meet the entire medical staff as several still remained on the station, he looked up as there was A quiet woosh out in the main area. Getting up, Mil again struggled with the door, this time it decided to half open and Mil bashed the left side of his body against the half door. Tending to his arm Mil walked into the main area, spotting Ensign Vesper sat looking rather uncomfortable he spoke from the alcove. "Ensign, if you sit any further back in that seat I will have to surgically remove it from you!" (reply Vesper) "What can I help you with then?" (posted by Mat Hodson) (USS Gannicus  – Main Sickbay – CEO Ensign Vesper  - 2000) Quietly she sneaked into sickbay and placed herself on a chair. ~Urgh... again... ok who do we have in here that i need to share ever dirty little piece of my life with,~ A small yawn escaped her as she looked round the new bay. She had seen the technical specs for the ship, but seeing it all in place was something different. For the time the bay was relatively quiet, hoping to remain unseen she sunk into the chair a little further although something told her that the 'whoosh' sound of the doors was still more than enough to give her position away. (Posted by Adam) (USS Gannicus  – Main Sickbay  - CEO Ensign Vesper 2001) "Ensign, if you sit any further back in that seat I will have to surgically remove it from you!" Ash abruptly stood up and wandered over to the voice, ~That's a famili...~ "What can I help you with then?" ~Oh God, i knew i shoulda checked the med roster. At least he's not a mind reader, eh, Ash?~ She entered sheepishly and sat her empty pill bottle on the desk. "I'm afraid I need a refill on these. I don't know if you've... eh, had the chance to look over the medical records?" (reply Mil) "I see," she winced, "I know that should've lasted an extra week, but they haven't been having the same impact recently. The effective duration has decreased and its not blocking out all the pain." She looked towards the floor, "Im taking that maximum dosage on a daily level now." (posted by Adam) (USS Gannicus  – Main Sickbay  - CEO Ensign Vesper - 2005) Letting out a nasal sigh Mil looked at the previous scans from the Hades. Keeping his head down he pointed to the bio bed "hop up Ensign" Mil then looked at her and picked up the nearby scanner. ~Sigh... I know this part~ Ash grudgingly lifted herself onto the bed and swivelled round, lying flat. She grabbed her hair and straightened it down one side to stop it getting in the way. "Stay still please" he waved the scanner around her head. "I would but it's difficult when your moving that *thing* over my head," ~stay calm, close your eyes, stay calm... its not like the last time someone scaned you it nearly killed you right, ha ha haha, Oh hurry up please!~ "hmm" Mil moved back to the screen "what do you feel is causing the pain?" Mil stared at the Ensign. She took the opportunity to quickly sit up. "Your guess is as good as mine. Normal docs, the academy even back on the Hades were a bit stumped with it." "there is a small imbalance in the receptors in your brain. These shouldn't actually make a difference anyway" He pointed to the bottle. "I was told that. They are only painkillers. Don't get me wrong they are pretty good pain killers, but they couldn't think of anything else to try," she sighed. Maybe at this rate some anti-depressants wouldn't go amiss too. "right, I want you to wear this for the next week, it will send a signal back to us when your body can't handle the pain and us to monitor the situation, thus allowing us to administer the meds you require. In short Ensign I'm cutting you off the tablets." Without giving a chance for Vesper to reply Mil placed the cortical monitor under her ear. "I will however, give you 15cc of Terakine just to help you manage." ~Oh great. Okay, kerb sarcasm and reply~ "Got it no more tablets... but i think you might be seeing me in here quite a bit now." She tilted her head to one side allowing Mil access to her neck. As she spoke he pulled the hypo from out of its holder and placed it against her neck. "Make an appointment with Ensign Nobel in a few days for a check up, prior to departure please and within the next week I want you to have seen Ensign Caspian for a phyc check. Any questions?" "I'll not have any withdrawal from the other meds will I?" asked Ash. It was always a concern with such potent medication. "I guess this will keep me off the away teams by the sounds of it?" (reply mil) "I see, and if I can't get to sick bay?" "In case you can't handle the pain and for some reason you can't get to sickbay here is a further 10cc of pain relief, emergency use only!" Mil handed the tube across to Vesper, as she took it the EMH sprung to life. "Please state the nature..." Mil swung round and cut the hologram off by ordering the computer to deactivate it. "whilst you're here could you please sort that and my door out?" Mil looked back at Vesper. "Let me guess, starting up on its own, about every hour?" asked Ash feeling at the scanner behind her ear. (reply mil) "A classic installation error. Computer synchronise EMH to the ships internal chronometer and reset. The original install puts the time at the programs compilation date. That causes the basic start-up debug scripts to run automatically every hour." ~Nothing like a nice easy problem to sort for a change.~ "Enjoy!" (reply mil) "Well... thanks. If anything else breaks like a few holo-emitters you be sure to give me a call," she said smiling realising she was at last free to leave the sick bay. (posted by Adam) (USS Gannicus  – Main Sickbay  - ATAC – Lt Tallac Dragovar- Day -3 2018)  The computer let out a small beep and Mil looked down.  “So whats up Doc?” Tallac asked, finding some amusement is the slightly frazzled appearance of his freind "so you've got a small tear in your back muscles, I'm guessing from your struggle with those underwater creatures. There is heat coming from your inner thighs, any pain or itching?" “I went horse-riding on the holodeck while we were waiting to transfer on board.” He explained. “A little saddle-sore from lack of practise.” "Well just to be on the safe side, use this ointment twice daily, will clear anything up" Mil handed a PADD over with the instructions and authority for replicating the lotion.  "I’ve only just found my desks so the chance of me finding an ointment in this mess is very slim" Mil walked back to help Tallac off the bed  “Well if you find the time, meet me in the mess for breakfast ?” (Posted by Tim) (USS Gannicus  – Main Sickbay  - CMO - Lt Mil Nicolae- 2019) Sitting back in his seat Mil read about Ensign Vesper, the accident prior to the Academy which had seemed to spurn the phantom pains and how everyone had tried most of the treatments around. Mil had an other tact in mind, he knew Ash from his time on the Hades and would use the out of Sickbay knowledge. Shutting his eyes he enjoyed a moment's peace, today had been a full day of trying to get to know people and falling over equipment and crew, but they had all gone, for now. In the other room Mil heard a small fizzing noise similar to that of a Hologram, he leaned forward and saw the EMH appear "Please state the nature of the medical emergency" Mil picked up a sense of sarcasm in its voice, in a hurry Mil grabbed the nearest PADD and threw it at the EMH as it disappeared.  The doors slammed shut and the PADD fell to the floor ~will this Damn ship ever work!~ Mil rubbed his forehead again. Silence filled the room and Mil closed his eyes again, enjoying the quiet hum the ship emitted. “Mil! Fed up of breaking people? Now you want to put them back together?” He grinned at his friend as he strode across the room. Almost flying off his chair Mil reacted by trying to grab a phaser, moments after he remembered he was a medic now, not a fighter. "Tallac, its a long story, my mum pulled a fast one, take a seat!" Mil pointed to the one clear seat, he still hadn't finished clearing the PADDs or anything else in his office.   “Why the move?” Tallac asked, more seriously than before.  "I'm not sure to be honest, change of pace, like I said my mother played a part, but well, I'm here now. If you're here for your medical, I suggest we move to a biobed, if you can find a working one that is!" Mil prayed that the doors opened, he knew they wouldn't stand a chance against the giant and he didn't want more engineers around than he needed. "Fair enough, I have to go and meet my new boss after this, and call on the captain as well. No rest for the wicked eh?” Tallac sat up on the bed and Mil pulled out the tricorder. "How are things, will be strange not working with you" Mil waved the scanner over Tallacs head. “Once we’re underway and everything is set up we’ll have to have a drink and a catch up. I wanted to give that idea of yours about combat medics a run out if we get chance.” Tallac spoke as Mil moved to the console.  "Ah yea, well im sure we will have time, I think the next few days will be pretty full on, if the sickbay is anything to go by, mind you it looks better than it did this morning, things got so bad I even did a medical on the Captain to get out!" The computer let out a small beep and Mil looked down. (reply Tallac) "so you've got a small tear in your back muscles, I'm guessing from your struggle with those underwater creatures. Just incase you became unhealthy in transit. “Why the move?” He asked, more seriously than before. He stood up and left the sick bay, he had one more task to complete before bed, one that he felt needed to be done so he could start tomorrow as the ships medic. The doors closed behind him and Mil walked along the deserted corridor, his private office was only round the corner, the room was to become his personal oasis in what would soon become a busy job. (Posted by Mat Hodson) (USS Gannicus  – Chief Medical Officers Office   - CMO - Lt Mil Nicolae- 2108) Reaching the office door Mil entered his access code and walked in, this was the first time he had seen the office, there was a small seating area by the window with a round glass table. Across the room was a desk and a further two seats, the area was a smaller office than many but it was really only going to be used by Mil. By the foot of the sofa was a small box, Mil had handpicked the ordiments to display. Lifting up the box onto the table Mil pulled out a few books and PADDs they were the training and reference books Emi had sent from Starfleet Medical. Moving around the desk Mil sat and placed a silver frame facing him. He let out a sigh, it had been a long time since he had spoken to Amiee, their time together had been breif and over the last month he hadn't had time to contact her about the Hades, or his transfer. Looking at the photo he remembered happy times, it was a shot from their date in the holodeck, a picnic on the moon. He had picked the frame and planned to give it to her, but Aimee had left before he could. He promised himself that he would keep it until she came back. Mil stood and went to the sofa, pulling off his tunic and kicking off his boots he sat down and looked out of the window, eventually his eyes closes. To make matters worse the EMH had started playing up again, the doors though sluggish at least opened fully. Mil opted to locate himself in the duty office again today, although the engineers and ongoing disruptions drove him crazy, he was able to keep an eye on everything. His private office was more secluded and although peaceful didn't prove useful in a ship that was full of new people; at least not today. Pulling out another PADD Mil looked at the new staff that were due to transfer today, his eye was caught by another member of his staff.  Taking a sip of his tea he read all about the Ensgin. The door opened and Mil looked up, standing over him was the real life officer shown on the PADD ~that was odd~ Mil said to himself. "Hello I'm Dr. Elizabeth Caspian,"  She introduced herself to the CMO. "I'll be the counselor." Mil stood up a little as a mark of respect "Ensign, welcome to the Gannicus, as you can see things are a little manic here today, but work must go on." Sitting back down Mil picked up a PADD and handed it to Liz. "I spent last night working out the duty rosta and thanks to Ensign Nobel you already have a list of patients." "I see if you need me, I'll be in my office setting getting ready for the initial psychological evals of the crew." "I will come along once I've sorted here, if we ever get sorted here." The doors closed as Mil took another sip of his drink. They knew after this parting that it would be some time before they could be together again. "Tell mother and father, I love them and miss them." Lizzy told Mia. Mia nodded, she did not like having to be separated from Lizzy again but the last mission showed that life on a star ship was to uncertain for there daughter. The mission on Color ll had shaken Mia deeply and the last mission for the Boudicca had almost claimed the life of the young child and Mia. "Once everything is settled, I'll send for you both." Lizzy spoke calmly. Mia kept silent she knew long goodbyes where hard on Elizabeth and neither wanted it harder than needed. They shared a brief kiss, and hugged, and Lizzy kissed her daughter and watched them leave after all Mia had her own shuttle to catch. Lizzy turned and made her way unto the ship. (Posted by Matthew) (Starbase Geneva – Promenade level – ACMO Ltjg Aimee Bracken – 0830) The two dark haired women sat at the table, both had ordered the same strong Americano, each mirroring the others movements, unconsciously taking sips at the same time as the other. They sat, and chatted for a long time, ordering replacement drinks when the originals were finished. Anyone who took more than a passing glance would notice a resemblance between the two females, one a Captain, and the other a junior Ensign. They wouldn’t see or indeed, think any more on the matter, there were, after all, hundreds of ‘Fleet Families’. The young Lieutenant took a deep drink of her coffee and an even deeper sigh. “I need to go, I’ve been told that there’s a still lot to do on the Gannicus before it departs.” “So I hear, it’s always the way with a new ship though, always teething problems. I’ll walk with you to the ramp.” “Taking me to school mum? You can trust me you know – I won’t bunk off.” The Captain laughed. “Wise guy. Come on.” They walked along the corridor leading to where the Gannicus was docked, there was a general hustle about the place that there always was when things needed to be done urgently. As they walked they saw numerous officers, some young, green, and still perhaps ‘wet behind the ears’, unsure of where they were going, or what they would find when they got there. Others were older, walking toward their destination with more of an air of calm about them, more purpose and more direction. Observing the general bustle was a decent analogy of life in the Fleet on its own. They rounded a corner, offering their first view of the Gannicus. “You are lucky you know. She’s a beautiful ship. Nervous?” The Lieutenant smiled, “a little, but it’s good to have Straton as Captain.” The Captain nodded, “She’s a good captain, no nonsense. Marine background I suppose. Wish her well from me.” They reached the ramp, guarded by base security. “Lieutenant jg Aimee Bracken, assigned ACMO to the USS Gannicus.” She showed her transfer orders to the Security detail. “That’s fine, go right on board Sir.” Aimee turned to Dale, and gave her a hug “I have to go mum, be careful.” “Me be careful? The most dangerous thing I’m allowed to do now is have sugar in my coffee. You be safe Lieutenant. That is a direct order.” Aimee smiled and nodded a response to the order. “Captain.” She then turned, and strode up the embarkation ramp, headed towards a turbolift, and the bridge. (posted by Mat Hodson) (USS Gannicus – Bridge – CEO Ensign Vesper - 0900) Throwing her hair back Ash finished a few tasks at the engineering station on the bridge and directed a few crewmen to quickly finish setting the bridge up. It was one of the few places on the ship that was actually complete to her standards. ~At least she looks nice in here~ Ash pulled  PADD out of her rear pocket with the current report on the ships systems and time-scales. It was put together very roughly she had more important things to do than make her report look pretty. She chimed the ready room door waiting for a response. She herself knew that most of the crew, hell, most of Starfleet hate these routine checkups, but in a perverse manner, she’d always liked them. It gave her a chance to see patients who were, for the most part, completely healthy, and usually eager to have a chat as she was working. It made a nice change from surgery, where all too often people where in a bad way.   “Ensign, welcome.” She motioned to a biobed. “We’re not quite ship shape and Bristol fashion yet, but we’ve facilities enough for a standard checkup.”   (reply Hayes)   Aimee smiled gently as she started the scan. “So tell me, any old injuries? Adventurous childhood?” (Posted by Mark) (USS Gannicus – Bridge – ACMO Ltjg Aimee Bracken – 0920) Aimee stepped off the turbolift, and out onto the bridge. Actually looking forward to this, she had always been fond of Straton, she’d been a good Captain, and without her presence, and her abilities, it was highly likely that Aimee wouldn’t be here now. She reached the door to the ready room, and it the chime, stepping into the room after hearing a word of command form inside. “Captain.” She handed over her transfer orders “Ltjg Aimee Bracken reporting for duty.” (posted by Mark) (USS Gannicus - Ready Room - CO Captain Eva Straton - 09:22) Eva looked up as her Ready Room doors opened again to allow another former member of the Hades crew into the room. Reporting for duty to the same captain he had served under on the Hades was not a daunting prospect. He thought he had served well on the last ship, he had fought hard, and won. He had been the captains sergeant of the guard during the excursion to expel the Cardassians from a medieval planet, having actually enjoyed the mission and still had the sword he had made for the mission displayed on his wall. The royal blue gems in the hilt, which served as eyes for a wolf-like creature still glittered in the lights, and the blade gleamed after he had polished it and repaired the nicks in it.  It had been this blade that he had used to cut the hand off the Cardassian commander when they stormed the temple they had used.  He had also been part of the team who put down the escape attempt of the Cardassian prisoners, and caught the traitor who released them. Pressing the buzzer he waited for the door to open and entered, knowing that past successes could quickly turn to ash with new mistakes.  “Lieutenant Dragovar reporting for duty Captain.” (Posted by Tim) (USS Gannicus - Ready Room - CO Captain Eva Straton - 09:47) “Lieutenant Dragovar reporting for duty Captain." "Lieutenant," She said, skipping small talk as was her nature. "I am placing you in charge of the ships Tactical department. You need to make sure all ship offensive and defensive systems are operating at peak efficiency. You will coordinate with Lt. You will run members of the tactical department through rigorous training sessions to ensure they are all fully qualified to handle ships offensive and defensive systems. "Ensign Vesper that is no way to address a senior officer I have had..." Mil turned round to face Aimee he stoped speaking and allowed his mouth to slightly drop. Moments later he smiled. Which is why she walked fully into the door. Muttering to herself, and pulling her dignity back together, she prised open the door, and walked, a little more cautiously this time, into sickbay. To say that the facilities were incredible was an understatement; state of the art biobeds were dotted around the room. Aimee looked around in wonder for a moment, eager to get started, but first, something else was on her mind. She heard a noise from the CMO’s office, and smiling to herself mischievously she silently moved into the room, spying a familiar form, one that she was fond of. She crept up behind Lt. Consultant Family Surgeon.” (Reply Mil) Aimee made a rude noise. “You know what that means as well as I. (posted by Matthew Locke)  (USS Gannicus - Sickbay - Science Officer Ensign (JG) Collin Hayes - 0859) Collin walked into Sickbay with a negative account about ship wide physicals. It wasn't that he knew them to be bad, but he was constantly being told that the check up was the last thing he would want to do. He couldn't understand why so many officers hated this part of the process of reporting in to their duty ship. After all everyone one of them had to take physicals in the Academy and along the way the entire time they would be there. Collin didn't understand it being any different on a ship or on land.  He thought maybe it stemmed from people being nervous about it. They were afraid they might hear bad news, ranging from minor sickness to major illnesses that would prevent them from continuing their duty on the ship. This had to be true, because even he was concerned at that point that he may receive bad news too. Which he knew not to be the case since he had a physical 6 months ago before graduating and was very healthy. The other officers had definitely reached a gullible cord with him and won.   Ensign Hayes standing there, nervously, was looking around and wondered where he needed to go. He could see biobeds in the back, a door to his left and what looked like some type of office straight ahead. Luckily a medical officer came out to greet him.   "Hello, my name is Collin Hayes, I am here for my medical check in."   (Posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Gannicus - Counselor's Office - CEO Ensign Vesper - Day -1, 0900) Yawning slightly Ash made her way to the Counselors office, she had a late night the day before and her head felt no better. ~I bet Mil is loving watching these scans~ she thought scratching at her neck. Approaching the room she built a picture of the Doctor from all her previous experiences, most of them not particularly good. Quietly knocking she waited till she was called in. (posted by Adam) (USS Gannicus - Chief Counselor's Office - CEO Ensign Vesper - 0906) "Ashley Vesper I assume please come in, can I interest you in something to drink." She spoke kindly turning back making her way into the heart of her office, enjoying the relaxing smell of midnight jasmine incense. Ash entered the room, "Eh... some tea if you don't mind Doctor, if the replicator is willing," she joked trying to hide her discomfort. She glanced round the room quickly noting ways that she could escape, before she sat down opposite the doctor. She nodded once drinks were served and both were relaxed Lizzy got down to business. "I heard you have a certain distrust for telepaths, is that so?" She asked taking a sip of her tea. Her muscles tightened and her heart began to race at Caspian's questioning. It's not that the questions were in the least awkward or intrusive but years of experience and emotions that was causing her involuntary reactions. "You would be right," she sighed sitting the cup on the table before she snapped the fragile handle. "I see, I want to be honest with you, and I don't want secrets. I am a full telepath but I don't want that to scare you away from here, I'm not going to read your mind or unveil your secrets. I want you to speak with me openly and freely. Now what brings you here?" "That's a good question?" Ash started closing her eyes trying to calm herself down a little ~I still don't trust her, Ash~, "The CMO though it be wise I spend some time here. I have been getting headache for years and I think, he thinks, there may be some mental scarring left over for the accident. It should all be in my file." She began using tricks she knew to attempt to conceal her emotions, more out of habit than by choice. Yet somehow she doubted that the Doctor would be fooled by them for long. (reply Caspian) "No of course there isn't," she replied calmly clasping her hands in her lap, "It was an accident. The shuttle crashed, people died. There's not much more to it than that. Accidents happen I can live with that regardless of what anyone else may think, besides I don't really remember anything of it anyway, just waking up in hospital about two, three weeks later." (reply Caspian) Again she tried to deflect Caspian's questions with humour, "Well it turned out at the hospital no one knew i was there, a clerical error could you imagine. In this day and age." He followed her over to the biobed and hopped on.  Aimee smiled gently as she started the scan. “So tell me, any old injuries? Adventurous childhood?”  Collin was a little uncomfortable, but he guessed that most people were when they were in sickbay. "Oh, not really. I have had my share of bruises from time to time when I don't correctly do the somersaults when diving. But I really don't have any major injuries."  He didn't know why, but he felt kind of stupid for not having a cool story to tell.  He wasn't for sure if he should continue the conversation and ask about her, but he felt like that would have been inappropriate. On one hand they were now part of the same crew, but on the other hand he wouldn't just start up a personal conversation with a doctor back home just because he was getting an exam. He decided that it would be weird and intrusive to ask her personal questions. He still couldn't just be quiet though, he wanted to keep talking to her. "So, I'm sorry, I didn't get your name," Collin mumbled out. (Posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Gannicus - Chief Counselor's Office - Ensign(sg) Elizabeth Caspian Dr. - 0913) "That's a good question?" If I back on those pills I could at least get through the day without having to run to sickbay every six hours and I certainly wouldn't have this... this collar strapped to my neck." Relaxing slightly she sat back into the chair changing her tone of voice, "besides, if they wanted me in more pain for their tests they could just decrease my dosage." "Finally when do you find you get the headaches the worse, normally after a period of high stress right?" "Normally over a period of time. High stress aggravates the symptoms. (posted by Adam) (USS Gannicus - Sickbay - CMO LT  Mil Nicolae- 1120) Mil sat in the office, the last few days had been a wurl of information and stress, the replicators still weren't working so the tea was still lukewarm but that didn't matter, Aimee was back. Sipping his tea Mil looked at the tricorder he had rigged to monitor Ensign Vespers vital signs, he looked slightly worried at the peaks there had been but managed to tie one down to the argument they had had the other day ~maybe it all is in her head~ Mil thought away. Something was causing the pain though, it was clear there was pain. He put the tricorder down and turned to a PADD of crewmen that hadn't reported for medicals, there was one name he didn't want to call but felt it was fairer if he took care of it rather than someone that isn't used to the odd behavior. Tapping his comm badge Mil gulped. "Lt Nicolae to Commander Zzt" (posted by Mat Hodson) (USS Gannicus - Deck 24 Antimatter Generator - ATT Lt. Now here he was getting the opportunity to help put the finishing touches on another one. There was a small glitch in the anti-matter generator and Zzt was in the process of finding it and fixing it, in his own unique fashion. There were parts and tools spread out around him, in no apparent order, and his uniform was covered in lubricant and metal shavings. With his head stuck into the non-active generator, Zzt was surprised when his comm-badge chirped. =/\=Lt Nicolae to Commander Zzt.=/\= Zzt's head slammed into the top of the generator. Cursing, Zzt pulled his head out of the generator and noticed some members of a nearby engineering team giggling at his expense. Zzt frowned as he tapped his badge to reply. "Zzt here. He stepped the rest of the way into Sickbay and wiggled his claws at the nurse as innocently as he could. "Nicky want Zzt come for physical," He said, simply trying not to squirm too much. All it did was hurt, but it helped to vent her frustrations, "Ensign Vesper reporting for one injection please." One of the medical staff from across the room noticed the commotion. Ash was sure she heard the words, 'I'll handle this' before he beckoned her over. "Ensign, I'm Marty Sanders. Can you come over here please, while I check your record." In no position to dispute she moved over to him, "Look this is only the first injection today so can you fix me so I can get back to building this ship" "Oh, you were taken off you other pills? You were on those for years by the looks of it and never had problems this bad," he said loading a hypospray and quickly injecting Ash. ~That's much better~ "Look, I'm not happy about it, but the Doc is doing something so I'll live with it for now. Or until it gets so bad I cant stand," she snapped back. "Is there anything else we need to do here or can I get back to work?" "You can leave," said Sanders with a concerned face. Many captains before him had returned home battered and bruised from overwhelming odds but the visible damage of the ship did not coincide with the story her crew told.  ~It could have been worse, a lot worse.~ he thought to himself, picking up his sinking head and standing to a more determined posture.  The Boudicca was still being repaired and in the months since his return Henry found himself imprisoned on the starbase; not being able to participate in anything that compared to the majesty of commanding a ship. That was until the day he learned of the launch of the 52nd fleet’s newest ship. The USS Gannicus was to be a great addition to the fleet combining the latest and greatest technology coupled with the class and sophistication that was well known of a Soverign class starship.  A grin appeared on his face. He found himself now walking to a turbo lift when a not so distant memory removed the smile and hardened his face.  Henry thought back to the look on Admiral Willoughby’s face when she questioned him and his first officer on the operations of the Boudicca in the Lubelter system, or lack thereof. He was sure that she would say he lost his command and he expected it but she said everything but that. Keeping him at bay on the starbase seemed to be the route she was taking, as a proper punishment and it indeed proved to be a stinging slap to the face of his career; A sting that he continued to feel until the announcement of the Gannicus’ launch. While he had no clue who would be assigned to the ship he had heard rumor of a vetted captain to take the lead. He did not want to challenge that and preferred not to bring any more attention to himself so instead he went back to the admiral and offered to be operationally demoted to Commander in order to serve as First Officer onboard the Gannicus. She reluctantly accepted and signed the padd granting the demotion and transfer to the USS Gannicus. She even showed mercy to the remainder of the Boudicca crew and granted all that wanted a transfer to the new ship as well.  Once Henry made it to the turbolift he called out “spacedock” which gave the turbolift life and sent him down to the requested location. Once the movement stopped he quickly stepped off and headed for the gangplank that connected the starbase to his new ‘home’. He stepped in the walkway and turned to look out the windows to his left to find a leviathan perched in wait. The ship sat goliath in size accented by shadows from its underbelly and gleaming reflections of light from the alloy that composed its hull. That moment was the first time that Henry found himself so close to a Soverign class starship and it was in that moment that he accepted the decision he made to step down from the captain’s chair. Doing his best to pull himself away from staring at the ship and all its glory he continued walking until he stopped at the threshold of the ship. Henry was told to meet his new captain at the threshold so that they could enter the ship together. He knew that she had been onboard for the past few days already so he looked forward to her insight on the new ship and what was to be expected. (posted by Darryl McDaniel) (USS Gannicus, Sickbay duty office, CMO, Lt Mil Nicolae 0805) Holding his head Mil checked over the latest reports, the Sickbay was almost sorted, he just had to move the rest of the staff in, conscious that they were departing soon and that he would be expected to report their readiness, he leaned forward and tapped the comms "All Medical Personell report to the Cheif Medical Officers office in one hour" (reply Bracken, Caspian, Nobel) Mil stood, picked up a few PADDs containing case notes and left the duty office and Sickbay. He walked the short distance to his private office. He had chosen the more quieter office purely to get the staff away from the Sickbay and into private to discuss patents away from the engineers that remained. He was almost as tall as she was with dark skin and hair. She was, of course, already familiar with his service record. She was, after all, still a stickler making sure she'd done her home work. "Commander," She said as Jacobs was finally cleared by security. "With me." She turned and started down the corridor. "We are currently 12 hours from launch," She said, handing him a PADD. "This is what still needs to be done. I need you to light a fire under the crews ass and make sure it gets done in under 12 hours." She stopped at the turbo-lift doors as they failed to open completely. She glared at them in frustration then forced the doors apart squeezing in-between them and gesturing the Commander to follow. "I need to have some words with the Commander who has been over seeing the final stages of the Gannicus's construction. Some of the staff has already reported on board and I have promptly put them to work. As the rest of the senior staff report in, I will send them to you to assign to most critical areas. Any questions?" (Posted by Wes) (USS Gannicus - Starboard Docking Port - First Officer Commander Henry Jacobs - 0830) Henry cleared the security check point to be immediately met by Captain Straton.   "Commander, with me." he heard her blurt out. ~I expected a little more than that for our first exchange of words~ There was no time for Henry to dwell in the moment as the woman turned quickly and proceeded down the hallway. Words escaped her mouth just as fast as she was walking. "We are currently 12 hours from launch," She said, handing him a PADD.  "This is what still needs to be done.  I need you to light a fire under the crews ass and make sure it gets done in under 12 hours." His response a second or two delayed, "understood", as he was still taken back from her abruptness. The pace at which the two walked did not cease until Henry observed the woman almost walk into the turblift door, which failed to open properly. She caught herself and then forced herself through the space presented to her and then motioned for Henry to do the same. She had almost caught the smile that formed on the commander's face; Henry's face formed the smirk feeling it was nothing less that karmatic justice from her earlier abruptness that caused the doors not to open properly.  "...As the rest of the senior staff report in, I will send them to you to assign to most critical areas. Any questions?" she finally asked.  "Not a question but I do have words. I don't think this is the way we should start our relationship on the Gannicus. You may have orders to give but barking them out will not move me and i don't suspect anyone else to move with cause. " (reply Straton) "We do however agree on the status of the ship and I will personally see that we are ready for launch, with time to spare." Henry removed himself from the turbolift withholding the opportunity for Eva to expel any more venom.  He walked and talked out loud, "First day on the job and already you are at ends with the captain." The rest he thought to himself, ~we are going to have a great time.~ (posted by Darryl McDaniel) (USS Gannicus - Turbolift - CO Captain Eva Straton - 08:32) "Not a question but I do have words," Commander Jacobs said, "I don't think this is the way we should start our relationship on the Gannicus. "Aw...did I hurt your feelings?" She asked in an acidic tone, "TOUGH! We have a mission to complete, and I will do what I deem necessary to complete that mission. Furthermore, you *WILL* follow my orders *Commander* and promptly, or you will find yourself in the brig on charges of insubordination, along with anyone else who wants to 'move without cause.' Do I make myself clear Commander?" The commander said something about making sure they launched on time before removing himself from the turbolift and her presence. Eva's scowl deepened as the turbolift resumed it's journey. ~I'm going to have to talk to the admiral that assigned him to me. Pausing she stood tall, closed her eyes and held her head. ~Thanks for taking me off the pills Mil. I'm not complaining Ash its about time we tossed those out the window. His attention was grabbed by  a face he had not had the fortune of meeting before. He quickly realized that it would be happening a lot more often so he made his way over to her.  "I don't think we have met, I'm Henry." He watched the ensign spring to attention after obviously taking note of the pips on his collar distinguishing him as a commander.  "Excuse me, sir," she said being caught off guard. We are definitely further ahead than we would have been if we didn't," she reached into her back pocket and handed over a copy of the latest reports, "Most of the main systems should be on-line within the next four hours. The navigational deflector, main computer and torpedo launchers are providing the most difficulty right now. I blame gremlins, sir," Ash attempted a quick jab at humour, she knew those remarks could fall either why. Henry looked over the padd he had in his hand while the ensign spoke. Joking about his missing eye helped him cope with the fact that it wasn’t there.   “Well we have seen our share of doctors while we were on the Boudicca, it was hard keeping track of them.”   Henry sat down on the biobed, feeling a degree more comfortable with the visit. It was necessary for everyone to have their checkups coming onboard a ship for the first time and unlike the captain’s prerogative Henry didn’t see the point in putting it off.   “How you been feeling, ok?” the ensign asked.   “Oh, the days are long, the nights are short. The only thing to look forward to is the launch this evening. I was going stir crazy just sitting on the starbase. At least we get back out into space.”   (reply Noble)   Henry followed the doctor’s instruction and laid back on the bed. Two mechanical arms came from the sides of the bed and locked into one unit just over Henry’s abdomen. He watched the bed light up as the device over his body began to scan him. Immediately he saw two science officers hovering over a work station. "Ensigns, can anyone direct me to the Chief Science Officer? Sometimes he hated being as tall as he was because the consoles he worked on weren't very friendly to his height. He heard the door open behind him, but instead of looking who it was he just assumed it was another crewmen delivering more containers. “Ensigns, can anyone direct me to the Chief Science Officer?" the first officer said.  Ensign Hayes turned around and looked at a man that he did not know. In Collin's experience if you didn't know someone you first looked at the pips on their collar. There was a very embarrassing story of him confusing a commander over a crewman and his duties that afternoon were not pleasant.   After he learned that the man standing before him had a rank of commander and was most likely the first officer, Collin snapped to and answered his questions quickly. "I'm sorry sir, but I haven't been in contact with the Chief Science Officer." "I was told Lieutenant Romanoff would be here, any word on where he is then?" the First Officer asked. "No sir...I haven't received any communication from him since I've reported in to the Captain." Ensign Hayes explained.   "Ok, well hopefully he will not be long. I'm gonna stick around and wait for him. What are you guys working on?"  "We are doing some minor adjustments to the external sensors. In the last calibration test we discovered a variance in the upper gamma levels, they were not synced within normal guidelines," the ensign explained the malfunction. (Posted by Calvin Capps) (USS Gannicus - Science Lab Two - First Officer Commander Henry Jacobs - 1141) ~hmm gamma rays~ Henry walked over to the ensign to get a better look at what he was working at. "I wouldn't say I am familiar with the Gamma level of the sensor spectrum but I have seen the pattern in which it operates." (Reply Hayes) "It has to do with my ocular implant," Henry said scratching the right side of his head. "Ever since I got this thing I have seen things the normal eye has seen" (Reply Hayes) He listened to the ensign's reply but couldn't help but notice that the other person in the room had yet to speak. Henry raised his index finger to Ensign Hayes signalling he would be back in just one moment. He casually walked over and started up again. "And. Just what are you working on over here ?" (Posted by Wes) (USS Gannicus – en-route to FO’s Office – ACSO Ens(jg) Madeline Kingston – 1325) Madeline reflected on the last few days as she strode down the corridor, her small, petite frame tense, on edge almost. She would be happier after they’d left dock, at least they’d all be doing their normal jobs. Dimly Madeline wondered what the dockworkers actually did, as they sure as hell had left enough problems with the ship. She’d lost count of the doors that she’d walked into already. She reached the door to the FO’s office, having already reported to the Captain, this was the next obvious call, followed by sickbay and her own department head, after that, she suspected it would be a couple of days of repairs. She didn’t mind that, she could do a certain amount of engineering, having had 3 older brothers who were all nuts about bikes, engines you name it. Fine warp mechanics and who knew what else was beyond her, but big heavy, things and general repairs she could manage. She hit the doorchime, all sorts of things still running around in her mind, somewhere, at the back of her thoughts there was a grain of pride, a dim thought that she had achieved her dream, a dream of becoming a Starfleet Officer, her family had doubted her from the off. Despite her successes at University. She knew herself though that this grain of pride was a false one; that it was only now, that the work, the danger begun. Up until now, it had only been training, that she had been shielded from the realities, or rather more correctly, the realities had been carefully presented to her in case study, in simulation and in objective thought, now, the game was a whole lot more difficult. There was a call from inside, and Madeline stepped into the office, and stepped up to the desk, presenting the PADD containing her transfer orders over to the First Officer. “Ensign jg Madeline Kingston reporting for duty Sir.” (posted by Mark) (USS Gannicus - First Officer's Office - First Officer Commander Henry Jacobs - 1337) Henry found a break in the busy day to make it into his office, located on deck two. When he entered the room the lights did not automatically illuminate as he was accustomed to, forcing him to call out to the computer, “lights, please.” As the room brightened Henry’s eyes were drawn immediately to the desk that took up the majority of the main room. The light shined off the metal trim of the desk directing attention to the spotless panels on top. The LCARs interface seemed to jump to life as Henry walked around to his seat and login with his personal information. To his immediate right he could see against the wall several panels each containing a live feed from different areas of the ship. He could see various teams working in their respective departments to prepare for the ship’s launch. With the swivel of a chair the commander was in arm reach of his replicator and chose that moment to test it out. Formulating his mouth to make a decision Henry was interrupted by the doorchime to his office. He huffed as he turned back around in his chair and called out, “Come on in.” A young woman walked in with a padd clutched in her hand. At first glance he did not know who he was meeting but it was her job to introduce herself to him. “Ensign (jg) Madeline Kingston reporting for duty, sir” He stood up as a sign of respect and walked around the desk to receive her. “Welcome to the Gannicus, ensign.” Henry looked down at the padd and nodded, “ Ah science department I see. Once you get settled in your quarters why do you head down to Science Lab Two. Lieutenant Romanoff is the Chief Science Officer and I am sure he will be glad for the additional help. Is there is anything you need from me?” (reply Kingston) “We will need everyone’s cooperation today so that we can make the launch time. Looks like you got here just before the 11th hour. “ (reply Kingston) “I just left from there so you let him know I keep my promises.” Henry smirked and made his way back to his desk and hopefully to concentrate on a surprise from the replicator. Trei Spoke. She put  down the report she was working on funny that it was Vespers, she was just about ready to add her findings to her medical file when the man before her walked in. When she looked at the security officer before her eyes narrowed to the look the ever female knew and that no male could ever hope to achieve it was the look that consumed men souls. "I will not ask who or how you got your information Sir, but what happens in this office is protected by doctor patient confidentiality. Just the fact that you are here asking me this question can allow me to bring you before the Captain for breaking that confidentiality. You see people trust me with their secrets... Secrets that I keep." She took a breath to help calm her anger. "If you wish to provide someone with a security detail I would suggest whoever told you about Vesper, because if I find out who it is they will never have to worry about having a complete thought ever again. Am I understood. Finally I do not know your intention with her but I suggest you tread lightly. He only had the opportunity to find this out as he worked underneath the injector control console a couple of feet away from the warp core, the center of the room. The top half of his tunic was folded down to his waist as he squirmed to reach a device that proved to elude him with each reach. In his right hand he aimed an ODN decoupler at the equipment to release the magnetic locking mechanism and with his left he grabbed it and attempted to yank it from place. The rustle took a few seconds but he released the piece from its rest and crawled himself out from under the console.  Ryan inspected the tech in a 365 degree manner. ~How is something new defective?~ he thought to himself as he could see that it may have been how it was installed that could have caused the issue.  The room was naturally alive with sound; consoles beeping, turbines churning, and the CEO yelling out commands with urgency. "Jonas! Jonas!... be careful installing that flow regulator. We need that in one piece." he heard, as it overtook the room. The lieutenant walked over to the young ensign who had been entrusted with running engineering realizing that once again someone had placed a lesser qualified and junior person in charge over him.  ~At least on the Boudicca that Jacobs got promoted and out of the engine room leaving it to be run properly by me," he said in his mind. There was still no love loss between the two men and if he never ran into him again he was just fine with that.  It seemed like fate however, thought otherwise. Before Ryan could walk over to where the CEO was standing, the doors to main engineering swooshed open and the man he was content with never seeing again once more fell upon his eyes. (Posted by Darryl McDaniel) (USS Gannicus - Main Engineering - CEO Ensign Vesper - 1430) "Jonas! JONAS!" shouted Ash to an upper level, "Be careful installing that flow regulator we need that in one piece." A brief wave signalled his acknowledgement. "Simmons, when you finish with testing the auxiliary controls for the warp drive, check the ejection systems." She continued to wander round engineering issuing orders and occasionally typing into consoles  (Posted by Adam) (USS Gannicus - Main Engineering - First Officer Henry Jacobs - 1438) ~That strudel that the replicator made was really delicious. I will really have to explore more from that desserts catalog.~ The splendid thoughts of sweets had occupied Henry's concentration while his legs walked on autopilot through the doors of Main Engineering. The first person to catch his eye was the familiar face of Lieutenant Jericho. He had served with the man previously on the Boudicca in engineering until being promoted to Captain. Henry offered an unemotional nod to him as he walked by eventually stopping at the ship's warp core. "Ensign Vesper," he called making his presence known. He saw her look up and in the direction of his voice. (Reply Vesper) "Hopefully you have some good news for me." (Reply Vesper) "That's what I wanted to hear," he said in a chipper manner satisfied with what she had to say, "what is left to be done?" (Posted by Darryl McDaniel) (USS Gannicus - Main Engineering - CEO Ensign Vesper - 1439) "Ensign Vesper," he called making his presence known. Ash looked up from her station, "Sir" "Hopefully you have some good news for me." "Good is a relative term," she pulled a PADD out from her back pocket, "The primary systems, for the most part, are on-line." "That's what I wanted to hear," he said in a chipper manner satisfied with what she had to say, "what is left to be done?" "There are still a few problems with the navigational deflector, not enough to keep us locked up here but it wont exactly be a smooth ride," she tapped her PADD further down, "Testing of the systems will be required once we leave dock, failing any other major problems we can start piecing together the rest of the ship." (reply Jacobs) "Support and auxiliary systems on decks ten, eleven, twelve, eighteen and twenty still need to be put in. We need to so a little stress testing of the computer core, but we should be go to go whenever you want," she smiled masking a burst of pain to her forehead. ~I hope the doc is actually looking at these readings. Of course he's not Ash, why should he. All he's done it tick you off since you arrived here.~ "We had a lot of help getting to this stage," she added. (Posted by Adam) (USS Gannicus - Main Engineering - First Officer. Commander Henry Jacobs - 1447) "Testing of the systems will be required once we leave dock, failing any other major problems we can start piecing together the rest of the ship." Henry nodded as the CEO finished. "That is the exact reason we are having this shake down cruise. To address all the hiccups there may be before we take on our first mission. I will let Lieutenant Showers know about the reflector issues. He is a competent pilot and I am sure he will make due in the interim." (Reply Vesper) "I also managed to find 20 more things that I need you to address. They are minor enough that with your immediate attention they should be completed before departure." (Reply Vesper) "We will open a direct link to engineering at 2000 hours. I expect them done by then." (Posted by Darryl McDaniel) (USS Gannicus - Main Engineering - CEO Ensign Vesper - 1448) Henry nodded as the CEO finished. "That is the exact reason we are having this shake down cruise. To address all the hiccups there may be before we take on our first mission. I will let Lieutenant Showers know about the reflector issues. He is a competent pilot and I am sure he will make due in the interim." "That would be a great help. I was just about to dispatch another team down there," she replied, "Was there anything else that I can look at for you Sir?" "I also managed to find 20 more things that I need you to address. They are minor enough that with your immediate attention they should be completed before departure." ~Only twenty... thank God I was expecting more. Maybe he's just left off all the little items~ Ash relived him of the list of items, "Looks reasonable enough. I'll see that its ready by then." Raising her hand she stopped one of the crewman and passed over the PADD with a nod. The nod was replied and he continued on his way. "We will open a direct link to engineering at 2000 hours. I expect them done by then." "Yes Sir, I'll see to it," she smiled flicking her messed hair back, tidying it slightly. Wrestling with the ship had not be kind to it today. "Was there anything else you need? Do we have a plan for the shakedown yet?" (reply Jacobs) Ash gave a silent nod of approval and let the first officer continue. (Posted by Adam) (USS Gannicus - Captains Office - Ensign(sg) Elizabeth Caspian, Dr. - 1915) Lizzy knew the Captain was busy, meeting the crew and trying to make sure the ship was ready to leave on time. Lizzy also had a good deal of work that needed to be done. While she wanted to meet the Captain earlier, from what Lizzy read in her file she did not think that was prudent. She made sure she was ready to enter the office her hair in place and her mental blocks up. She knew she was a marine and a full telepath. She might try to test her abilities, by now she was sure the Captain had read her file. She pressed the button to announce her presence and waits to be allowed entry. Once the door opens she enters, "Hello Captain..." She speaks coming to her desk standing at attention. " I'm Ensign Caspian, I figured it was past time we met. I hope you don't mind me coming later, but I knew you were busy and I wanted to get to work." (posted by Matthew Locke) (USS Gannicus - Bridge - CO Captain Eva Straton - 20:30) With the Bridge abuzz with activity around her, Eva watched the time as well as her untested crew. Some she knew from her time on the Hades. A few she knew from her time as MCO on the Boudicca, and then there were those that were still a complete unknown to her. ~Time will tell the tale.~ She thought as she noticed the time. "Clear all moorings, and prepare for launch," She said suddenly. "Geneva has cleared us for launch," Chief Brown, sitting at the OPS station said a few seconds latter. "Thrusters; ahead one quarter," Eva ordered. On the main view screen, the dry dock that had held the Gannicus slowly began to recede around the edges of the screen as the Gannicus crept forward. Slowly the star field filled in the screen and within minutes, the Gannicus was free of the dock. "We are clear and free to navigate," Chief Brown announced. "Set course 045 mark 35, ahead full impulse," Eva ordered, "Prepare for warp speed." Eva watched the screen on her arm rest as the Gannicus accelerated to full impulse, quickly leaving Star Base Geneva behind. Eva turned to look at Ensign Vesper, who was sitting at the Engineering station, working her console like a musician would handle their favorite instrument. "Take us to warp 1," She ordered, turning back in her seat to watch the main view screen. There was a slight pause and then the stars streaked into rainbow colors as the Gannicus jumped to warp. Eva watched the main view screen as well as her systems display on the arm of her chair. She counted off the time in her mind silently, feeling the vibration of the warp drive through the deck plates. "Take us to warp 3," She ordered, wanting to slowly ease the ship up to cruising speed. As the ship accelerated, she watched her console and listened to the chatter of her crew around her. "Warp 6," She ordered a few minutes latter. She waited for the ship to settle in at the new speed. After several minutes with no alerts or alarms, Eva rose to her feet. "Maintain course and speed," She said, "XO; you're with me. Lt. Dragovar; you have the Bridge." She looked at Commander Jacobs and nodded before turning and heading toward her Ready Room. (Posted by Wes) (USS Gannicus, Bridge, ATAC Lt jg Tallac Dragovar, 20:40)  “Lt. Dragovar; you have the Bridge." The words every junior officer wished to hear. “Aye, Captain. I have the bridge.” He replied, nodding at the officer stood at the auxiliary console behind him to take his place. He walked to the big chair and stood in front of it. After a moment looking at it he turned sat down.  “Comfy.” He muttered to himself.   He settled and watched the stars stream towards them on the view screen. There was an immense feeling of power, to sit in the command chair for the newest ship in the fleet, but he recalled a line from a book, saying that a throne should not be an easy place to sit, and it was true. His own experience as a mercenary had told him that nothing corrupts like power. He had helped to bring down dictators, warlords and even a King. And knew what some people would do for power. He was brought from his memories by the chief crossing the bridge and speaking to Ensign Vesper. She left the bridge in a hurry after that. Dragovar was not easily fooled by the slightly exaggerated conversation, and the sudden departure.  “Everything OK Chief?” He asked with a curious look.  (reply Janey)  “I feel like I need to give an order.” He said with a half smile. “So.” He drew himself up to his full height. “Carry on chief.” He said in his deep and commanding voice.  He walked back and sat in the captain chair. (Posted by Tim) (USS Gannicus - Bridge - First Officer Commander Henry Jacobs - 2041) The time had finally come for the Gannicus to leave starbase Geneva and there was quite the bustle on the bridge as everyone waited for the captain to give word. It was nothing short of a miracle that all essential systems were online just in time for the launch; an accomplishment solely due to the team work of the would be crew that would call the Gannicus it's home. Henry managed to sit next to Captain Straton without incident, an extremely fortunate event when no words were spoken between the two since the earlier hostilities. The two command officers sat side by side as the captain opened her mouth and gave order leave the dock. The trained hand of the helmsman made it so that exiting the spacedock was without effort. The Gannicus cleared the spackdock doors and soon the image of Starbase Geneva was lost in space. It was straight to business in the testing of the warp capability. Steadily the ship climbed up the warp ladder until its reached cruising speed without challenge. So far it was a successful test of the ship that had proven its amazing capabilities. Without warning Captain Straton changed the atmosphere of the room and asked Henry to follow her to her Ready Room. If peace was going to be made Henry would have to attempt to make it during that time. The truth was Henry had no idea what was to happened behind the closed doors so he nodded in agreement and followed the woman into the adjacent room. (Posted by Darryl McDaniel) (USS Gannicus, Bridge, CEO Ensign Vesper, 2048) "Ma'am I'm reading a misaligned power coil in the eps coupling matrix" Janey said as she closed in on Ash ~What the looks fine too me~ "Are you sure your..." Leaning in she put her hand on her friends, "If you need to use it, use it" Janey whispered so only Ash could hear. "You're quite right..." she replied taking the hint. She took another good feel of the medicine. It called to her, temped her to use it. "Im sure I can send an ops team down to check it out" Janey smiled at Ash, she knew there wasn't anything wrong with the coil but needed to get across the bridge. "Maybe, I should go take a look at that myself," she smiled and walked of to the lift giving Janey a quick nod. A young crewman took her place. (reply Janey, Any) Entering the lift the doors swished closed behind her, "Quarters," she stammered resting her hand on the side of the lift and closing her eyes. (Unknown, CEO Ensign Vesper, Unknown) The lift went silent, she felt motionless. Opening her eyes she looked into an empty white void stretching out as far as she could see. Swivelling her head she looked in all directions. Emptiness. It felt like an eternity was washing over her. "Hello!" Ash shouted. Her voice echoed back softly. "HELLOOO!" she yelled again, "Is anyone there?" No response came. She shivered, the emptiness made her feel claustrophobic with no reference points of anything. Suddenly a spot in the distance appeared. It started off as a speck before slowly growing larger. It began to take the form vaguely resembling a person. (Posted by Adam) (USS Gannicus, Bridge, CEO Ensign Vesper, 2050)   Looking over the control and reports flowing to her from her engineers it looked like everything was in good shape considering the time they had to get it all going. She relaxed a bit as the last of the system checks came in. Power control units, computer control, environmental systems and finally the navigational deflector, all green. ~Well we are not dead, thats a good sign... I guess now we can get everything else going~ Her head ached by this point. She reached down to her pocket for the hypospray shy was given feeling it over her trousers. ~No... This one is for emergencies. Do you want to beat yourself up Ash? What I want is too feel better, the other pills were fine. Nah, they weren't really working Ash, besides the injections take the edge off a bit more~ She looked onwards at her station looking over the systems again just in case something was missed. (Posted by Adam) (USS Gannicus, Sickbay, CMO, Lt Mil Nicolae, 20:55) The console bleeped calling Mils attention to it, he walked knowing instantly what and who it was The readouts flowed like every other time, however there was something different. "Sickbay to Ensign Vesper" there was no reply "lt Nicolae to Ensign Vesper" again there was no reply. "Computer display the location of Ensgin Vesper" the computer showed her location as her quarter's. He looked around the Sickbay and focused on her ACMO  "Ensign Nobel" (reply Nobel) "Grab a med kit and report to Ensgin Vespers quarters asap!" (posted by mat Hodson) (USS Gannicus, Quarters, CEO Ensign Vesper, 2100) Ash drew a sharp breath of air. ~What the hell... how am i...~ Checking herself over she took out the hypospray. It was still full, yet somehow she felt oddly better. Tossing a case carelessly to the side she sat on the side of her bed. Placing her hands over her face she rested her head between her knees and thought. (posted by Adam)
